Suntory Yamazaki Distillery, located in Shimamoto-cho, Mishima-gun, was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii as the birthplace of Japanese whisky. The distillery is located at Yamazaki on the border of Osaka and Kyoto prefectures, with Yamazaki spring water from 'Japan's 100 Famous Waters,' bamboo forests and the humid climate at the confluence of the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers, creating an ideal environment for whisky maturation. Tours cover distillation, maturation and blending, with tastings of Yamazaki 12-year, 18-year and Hibiki 21-year. Reservations are required, making it a must-visit mecca for whisky lovers.

Sakai Risho no Mori, located in Sakai-ku, Sakai, opened in 2015 as a cultural complex featuring exhibitions on tea ceremony master Sen no Rikyu and Yodo-dono. The facility includes the Sen no Rikyu Tea Ceremony Hall and Yodo-dono Exhibition Hall, displaying Rikyu's tea philosophy, replica tea utensils and reconstructed traditional tea rooms. The 'Tai-an' and 'Golden Tea Room' replicas offer matcha experiences by reservation. Designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, the building blends modern minimalism with Zen aesthetics, making it the best venue to understand Sakai's deep history as a medieval international trading port.

Mount Ikoma, on the border of Higashi-Osaka and Nara's Ikoma city, is the highest peak of the Ikoma range at 642 meters. Near the summit, the Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park (opened 1929), one of Japan's oldest amusement parks, is accessible by cable car and offers a park train, carousel, summer wading pool and a high-altitude observation cafe. The summit observatory offers 360-degree views of the Osaka plain, Kyoto, Kobe and Awaji Island. Along the way are Hozan-ji Temple, Yuge Falls and other landmarks, making it a representative mountain destination for family hiking and night views in Kansai.

The Shiba Ryotaro Memorial Museum, located in Higashi-Osaka, opened in 2001 to commemorate Japan's beloved author Shiba Ryotaro (1923-1996). Designed by master architect Tadao Ando, the museum is adjacent to Shiba's former residence. The interior displays the writer's original study, manuscripts, library and travel materials, with the iconic three-story bookshelf holding about 20,000 volumes for a stunning visual impact. With rich light and shadow variations, Ando uses exposed concrete and glass to create a serene space as if in dialogue with the author.

Kansai International Airport, on an artificial island in Osaka Bay off Senshu, opened in 1994 as Japan's first 24-hour international airport, designed by master architect Renzo Piano. The airport is the main international gateway for the Kansai region, with the terminal featuring duty-free shops, retail, restaurants, Kansai Airport Railway Museum and the Sky View observation deck. The 4th floor Kansai Airport Ramen Koji in Terminal 1 gathers 14 renowned noodle shops nationwide, and Terminal 2's Duty Free Shop is Japan's largest duty-free zone. About 50 minutes from central Osaka.

Shimo-Akasaka Terraced Rice Fields, in Chihaya-Akasaka village, Minami-Kawachi, is the only terraced field in Osaka Prefecture selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Terraced Fields. About 280 paddy fields cascade up the mountain, reflecting sky light at spring planting, green waves in summer, golden ears in autumn and snow-covered serenity in winter — moving scenes across all seasons. The November 'Terraced Field Candle Night' lights thousands of bamboo lanterns, transforming the fields into a golden ocean — Osaka's most romantic autumn-only beauty. Nearby are Mount Kongo and Chihaya Castle ruins and other historical sites.
